Patented ToeMate® Kits include a microwaveable soaking bowl, pretreatment and thermal chemistry, footrest, and instructions. Infected nails are pretreated with salicylic acid followed by soaking in warm bis (hydrogenated tallow alkyl) dimethyl quaternary chlorides (QAC) and poly (hexamethylenebiguanide) hydrochloride (PHMB) dissolved in water for 10 to 15 minutes once daily. Company data suggests that QAC and PHMB both penetrate the nail and exhibit antibacterial, virus, yeast, and mold activity, so additional conditions may also be treated including bacterial infections, onycholysis, paronychia, and psoriasis. The active ingredients in ToeMate Kits have been safely used in personal care products and public water treatments for over 60 years.
