Pennsylvania sets licensure standards

In July Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett approved HB 48, which amends the Pennsylvania Medical Practices Act of 1985 to provide for licensure of prosthetists, orthotists, pedorthists, and orthotic fitters.

The new law sets standards of professional conduct and requires practitioners to fulfill educational and training requirements.

The Pennsylvanian Orthotic and Prosthetic Society, which worked closely with state officials to pass the bill, issued a statement thanking the governor and other state representatives who backed the legislation and noting that licensure “will greatly increase the quality of care given to patients in these fields.”
