Groups fund concussion-MSK injury study

A joint committee of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM) in April awarded Daniel Herman, MD, PhD, its 2014 ACSM Foundation-AMSSM Foundation Clinical Research Grant.

The $20,000 award will support Herman’s original research investigating neurocognitive deficits associated with sports concussions and their link to possible increased musculoskeletal risks, including anterior cruciate ligament injury (see “Altered landings suggest link between neurocognitive scores, ACL injury risk,” October 2013, page 13).

The ACSM-AMSSM award also allocates a portion of funds for recipients’ development as investigators. This is the second year the organizations have awarded the grant.

Herman is assistant professor of orthopaedics and rehabilitation at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
