Diabetes event targets Native Americans

Native Nation Events, a provider of educational conferences and forums to the Native American community, will hold the Native American Diabetes Pandemic Conference: Prevention, Awareness & Programs November 16-17 in Cabazon, CA.

On some reservations, more than 50% of the residents have diabetes, the highest rate of any single population in the world. On average, Native Americans are 2.6 times more likely to have diabetes than non-Hispanic whites of similar age, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The conference is expected to draw leadership and diabetes prevention program representatives from more than 150 tribes. Tribal leaders will discuss how they have improved control of the disease by working with companies that provide screening, testing, and insurance.
