The American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) lobbied successfully to secure funds for O&P outcomes research as part of the 2014 congressional appropriations package, the organization announced in January.
Congress accepted a proposal by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), to include in the newly enacted 2014 budget bill a provision for a $10 million Department of Defense (DOD) investment in new O&P outcomes research initiatives.
AOPA continues to lobby for decision-making input, and is working to suggest to congressional and DOD officials key areas for use of these funds and to promote the other target for this effort, increasing educational advances for O&P entry-level education programs.
Senator Richard Durbin and Catriona Macdonald (President of Linchpin Associates and AOPA’s Lobbyist for this project) will be at the April 2-4 Policy Forum in Washington to DC.
