The American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA) invites O&P students and residents to present their research findings or case studies at the 2013 O&P World Congress, scheduled for September 18-21 in Orlando, FL.
AOPA will give the Otto and Lucille Becker Award for best orthotic abstract and the Edwin and Kathryn Arbogast Award to the best prosthetic abstract presented at the congress by a qualifying student or resident. AOPA will also give special recognition to the winners’ schools.
Each winner receives $500, congress registration, coach-class airfare to Orlando, and three nights of hotel accommodations.
To qualify, the poster’s main author must be an undergraduate or master’s student or a resident at a qualified patient care facility. Abstracts that have been presented previously, published, or are currently submitted pending acceptance are not eligible for submission.
Abstracts are due by August 9; to make a submission visit http://bit.ly/AOPA2013Student. For more information, contact Tina Moran at 571/431-0808 or tmoran@aopanet.org.
Troy, MI-based Becker Orthopedic and WillowWood, located in Mt. Sterling, OH, endowed the awards.
Practitioners, technicians, and students attending the congress can also take part in a technical fabrication contest, competing with international colleagues to fabricate a combination prosthetic/orthotic device for a partial foot amputee.
All devices will be displayed during the congress, and AOPA will choose a winner and runner-up in the Practitioner, Technician, and Student categories. All congress attendees can vote for the People’s Choice Award.
First-place winners receive $500, runners up receive $200, and the People’s Choice Award recipient receives $300.
AOPA will also recognize the school of the participant winning first place in the student category with a trophy and press coverage.
