The American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics (ABC) will sponsor the first-ever Technical Fabrication Contest offered by the American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association (AOPA) and the Orthotic & Prosthetic Technological Association (OPTA) and premiering at the AOPA National Assembly, September 6-9 in Boston.
Contestants must fabricate a finished transtibial swim prosthesis that will be judged and displayed at the conference. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first- ($500), second- ($300), and third-place ($150) winners in both professional and student categories; eligible students include anyone currently enrolled in an O&P technician training program or who graduates from such a program in spring or summer 2012. For complete contest details, go to www.aopanet.org. Additional sponsors are AOPA, OPTA, and Minneapolis, MN-based Otto Bock.
ABC participated in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) Annual Meeting, held April 29-30 in San Diego, CA, continuing its support of the accreditation system and of education standards for the O&P profession.
ABC’s long-standing association with CAAHEP, the largest programmatic postsecondary accrediting agency in the health sciences field, results from its sponsorship of the National Commission on Orthotic and Prosthetic Education’s mission and activities.
