Duderstadt, Germany-based Ottobock and Ekso Bionics, headquartered in Richmond, CA, formalized an intellectual property licensing agreement in November that will allow Ottobock to make use of Ekso’s wearable bionics technology in its next-generation prosthetic devices.
Ekso will receive a combination of license and royalty payments in return for licensing two of its patents to Ottobock.
Ottobock is focused on developing advanced O&P technology; a six-person study epublished in September by Prosthetics & Orthotics International found its C-brace, a microprocessor-controlled leg orthosis system, improved participants’ ability to descend ramps and stairs compared with conventional knee-ankle foot orthoses.
